Stuart-Hobson Middle School Project

Stuart-Hobson Middle School

Project Overview

Stuart-Hobson Middle School is one of the Capitol Hill Cluster Schools and is located at 410 E Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002 in Ward 6. The school was originally constructed in 1927 and an east wing addition was added in the 1930's. Although part of the Phase 1 Modernization Program, the scope of work and CIP funding has expanded to include a complete MEP upgrade to the existing systems, a gym renovation, and a Museum Program that includes a 13,918 sf building addition. MEP upgrades will include all new heating and cooling equipment to control room temperature and new ventilation equipment to provide improved indoor air quality. The gym renovation component will include the demolition of two small gyms and combining them to create a modern full-sized middle school gym. The Museum Program will include space for an Art Room, Museum Science Room, Drama/Choral Room, and a Music/Band Room. Classrooms will also incorporate new flooring, wall finishes, acoustical ceilings, IT upgrades, furniture, and light fixtures. Other school improvements include a renovated main entrance lobby, administration area, corridors, stairwells, and all new toilet rooms. Renovation work to occur Summer 2012 and Summer 2013. The building addition work is currently contemplated for November 15, 2013 to August 15, 2014.
