Project Overview

The Department of General Services (DGS) is partnering with the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to design and build a recreation center for the community at the former Kenilworth Elementary School located at 1300 44th St., NE in Ward 7.

Conceptual plans have been developed and approved by the community. DGS on behalf of DPR will design, renovate and expand a portion of the first floor and build additions to include the following:

  • Large Multi-purpose room
  • Boxing room
  • Senior Room
  • Teen Room
  • Computer Room
  • Fitness Center
  • Demonstration Kitchen
  • Locker Rooms
  • Support Spaces
  • New Gymnasium
  • New Outdoor Pool
  • New Pool House
  • Site Improvements

EVENTS
  • Kenilworth Groundbreaking- November 6, 2015 3:30-4:30
  • DPR and DGS presented concept designs for the new recreation center at a community meeting held  at Kenilworth Elementary School on March 27, 2014. 
  • Based on residents' feedback, concept designs were revised and shown to the community on October 2, 2014
  • Community meeting held on October 29, 2014 from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm at Kenilworth Elementary School.
