More than 130 Certified Business Enterprise (CBE) companies, local business owners and contractors packed a first-floor conference room Thursday at the Department of Employment Services (DOES) to learn about potential school and non-school construction opportunities, as well as network with the Contracting and Procurement Division of the Department of General Services (DGS).

“In an effort to provide more business opportunities for District companies, including women- and minority-owned firms, DGS hosted the ‘Meet and Greet’ event for District contractors to build a stronger relationship with these companies,” said Brian J. Hanlon, Interim Director of DGS.

“Under the leadership of the Mayor, with the support of the Council of the District of Columbia, and as a brand new agency in the District, we recognize the importance of providing information to companies across the District on how to work and partner with DGS,” Hanlon said.

This event was the first of four to be held quarterly across the District. An important feature of the event was the announcement of six solicitations the participants can now compete for as part of the Agency’s solicitation process.

“This was not just a networking event, as companies also left the session with the opportunity to now bid on several District projects,” Hanlon said.
