Payne Elementary School Project

Project Overview

Located on Capital Hill, Daniel A. Payne Elementary School currently serves 272 students, and enrollment is projected to grow. Payne is known for its strong leadership; its high quality early childhood curriculum; its program integrating children with hearing impairments with hearing students; its special education services, including a program for children with emotional behavioral disabilities; and as the neighborhood school for children from the DC General Families Shelter.

Phase-I (Summer 2014) scope of work consist of the modernization of the following spaces:

  • west building, central building, east building 3rd floor structural retrofit, designed to seismically strengthen the existing structural system
  • new HVAC for the Phase I structures
  • new LED lighting
  • new Information technology systems
  • new mechanical systems
  • renovated kitchen

Phase-2 (Summer 2015) scope of work consist of:

  • the East Building 1st-3rd floor modernization
  • new LED lighting
  • new Information technology systems
  • new mechanical systems
  • new entryway and elevator
