Project Description:
The Hill East Phase II project encompasses the relocation of a critical 72-inch combined sewer line, along with related infrastructure improvements, to accommodate the planned redevelopment of the Hill East site—formerly part of the District of Columbia General Hospital campus. This relocation is essential to support future mixed-use development while maintaining uninterrupted service of the city's sanitary and stormwater conveyance system.
Project Status:
July 2026 Quarterly Update:
- The Hill East Phase II 72-inch Sewer Relocation Project continues to progress in support of the redevelopment of the former DC General Hospital site. The DDOT extension permit has been approved, and the Washington Gas relocation is complete. The primary remaining schedule constraint is the PEPCO utility conflict at CS-50, where cable de-energization is required before the remaining auger investigation and shaft construction can proceed.
- Midwest Tunneling has completed layout and track preparation, and tunneling operations are underway.
