Department of General Services Hosts Small Business Symposium Highlights 2024 Business Opportunities

Monday, November 27, 2023

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Earlier this month, the Department of General Services (DGS) hosted its premiere outreach event ‘DGS Small Business Symposium 2024: Build. Maintain. Sustain,’ an annual symposium in which the local Certified Business Enterprise (CBE) community can learn about procurement opportunities with the agency.  DGS is one of the largest contributors to the District's $1 billion annual small business enterprise (SBE) spending goal, contributing more than $350 million to small businesses every year.

“The small business community plays a crucial role for DGS. We highly depend on this community as they enable us to do what we do – support local small businesses and recognize the value of their skills and labor,” said DGS Director Delano Hunter. “The opportunities shared at this year’s symposium, whether big or small, will play a crucial role in supporting our District. When DGS and homegrown small businesses join forces, we are not only contributing to the vibrant growth of our community, but also ensuring that we all continue to grow together.”

This year’s symposium brought together over 100 companies, including general contractors, architecture firms, janitorial services, technology professionals, and beyond. For photos and videos of the event, please contact [email protected].

The mission of the Department of General Services is to build, maintain, and sustain the District of Columbia’s real estate portfolio, which includes more than 840 District owned properties in Washington, DC. This work allows the agency to foster economic viability, environmental stewardship, and equity across all eight (8) wards.
