Facilities Management

Overview 

As the District’s implementation agency for all District-owned and managed facilities; DGS relies heavily on our partnerships with our client agencies to report and prioritize all facilities-related maintenance requests.  In partnership with our client agencies; all work orders are under client agency prioritization review. Work that has been prioritized will be assessed and completed as soon as possible, pending any constraints contingent upon budget, weather, and workforce resources.

Summary of Services

The services provided by FMD enhance and support healthy work, school, and recreational spaces, which include:

• Facilities Management (Maintenance and Repair)
• Facility Fire Life and Safety Management
• Grounds Maintenance (Natural and Artificial)
• Custodial and Janitorial Services
• Citywide HVAC Maintenance and Repair
• Environmental Health and Safety Services
• Citywide Snow and Ice Removal
• Parking Lot Management

Since 2019, the Department of General Services has integrated into the Office of Unified Communications (OUC) DC 311 platform, allowing residents to request city services for DGS-managed facilities, beginning with mowing and ground maintenance. Since then, DGS has expanded its services to include a range of seasonal and year-round services.

Please submit requests to DGS via DC 311 using one of the DGS 311 Service Requests:

DGS 311 Service Requests Include: 

Year-Round Services:

  • Dog Park Maintenance: Such as broken gates, water fountain leaks, faucet repairs, etc.
  • Indoor Pool Maintenance: Such as running showers, faucet repairs, broken dryers, etc.
  • Overflowing DPR Recycling Litter Cans: Available for recycling cans in DPR parks and facilities managed by DGS
  • Playground Maintenance: Such as broken playground equipment at DCPS or DPS parks and playgrounds

Seasonal Services (March-December):

  • Grounds Landscaping & Maintenance: Such as weed removal, bushes/hedge trimming, and dead branch and limb removal at District government-owned facilities, parks, and green spaces.
  • Missed Mowing: Available for over 600 District-owned locations, including schools, recreation centers, municipal buildings, and parks. Always check the mowing map before submitting a request!

Seasonal Services (May-September):

  • Spray Park Maintenance: Such as water pressure issues, leaks, and broken water features.
  • Outdoor Pool Maintenance: Available at District government-owned pools.
