The Department of General Services (DGS) is proud to share this year’s DCPS Recycles! Success Stories. Stories will be posted each day until the end of this school year, to celebrate a year of improving recycling!
DGS has greatly expanded the recycling program provided to DCPS to include for the first time:
- Increased services - more than doubled the recycling pick up service capacity.
- Standardized supplies - more than 2000 bins provided at no cost to DCPS.
- Improved support - resources and regular updates published on the DGS website.
- Organics pick up pilot - together the 11 participating schools sent more than 22 tons of organic waste to a composting facility instead of a landfill or incinerator.
The success of this program ultimately depends on the hard work of the staff and students at DCPS schools. Each school faces unique challenges and we are endlessly amazed at the creativity and resourcefulness of our colleagues in DCPS as they work with us and their students to build a better more sustainable DC.
