Garrison Elementary School Project

Project Overview

The existing Garrison Elementary School was built in 1964 and 1965 with a capacity for 700 students.  The school is 50 years old and is scheduled for a comprehensive modernization to begin in 2015. Planning began in 2013-14 with the development of an educational specification, community engagement meetings, and preliminary concept designs. The Department of General Services (DGS), DC Public Schools (DCPS) and the architect is working with the School Improvement Team (SIT) comprised of school staff and parents and members of the community to develop concepts for the school based on program, student, teacher and community needs. The ‘new’ Garrison Elementary School will provide a learning environment that is safe, universally accessible, and comfortable for students in pre-school to grade 5. The building will meet or exceed sustainability guidelines for LEED Gold and be an asset to the neighborhood.
