The UCC is one of the District of Columbia Government's most mission-critical buildings. The UCC houses the headquarters of two (2) mission-critical public safety and first-responder agencies, the Office of Unified Communications (OUC) and the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEAM). Significant operations at the OUC include receiving and dispatching emergency E-911 calls for police, fire and emergency medical services while the HSEAM plays a local and regional role to prepare and respond to all large scale emergencies. The uninterruptible flow of electricity is paramount to the successful delivery of these and other services at the UCC.
