Project Description:
This project is full renovation of the playground and dogpark and ADA and modest improvements to the plaza.
Project Status:
The Department of General Services (DGS) wants to inform you of a recent development that will impact the 26th and I Streets Playground. We have made the decision to terminate contracts with Broughton Construction Company after careful consideration and assessment of their performance. We understand that this will cause the 26th and I Streets Playground project to be delayed; however, our priority remains delivering the highest quality facilities which serve the public’s needs across the District. We are working diligently to assess the situation, explore alternative solutions, and minimize disruptions caused by this change as we move toward a Spring 2024 start date. Our team is committed to keeping you informed about the progress of this project, as well as the steps we are taking to minimize delays and deliver this playground and dog park as swiftly as possible.
On Wednesday, November 20, DGS and DPR presented at the ANC2A November meeting with the new proposed design. We discussed a potential retaining wall that would be needed to expand the park; however, the retaining wall is not needed for the current design and will not be included in the current design we are seeking PSC approval for.
We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this situation. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Please contact Brittany Hughes, [email protected], with any questions, or visit https://dgs.dc.gov/page/26th-and-i-streets-nw-playground for further updates.
