As part of Homeward DC, Mayor Bowser’s plan to end homelessness, the Department of General Services will close and deconstruct DC General, a former hospital that has served as the District’s largest family shelter for the previous seven years. With a capacity of 250 families who are experiencing homelessness, the DC General Campus Improvements project is comprised of 6 main buildings including site hardscaping. The Core Building includes: Buildings 1 through 4, Building 29 and Building 9. Building 29 is located to the northwest of the Core building. Building 9 is located northeast of the Core Building. The total square footage of these building structures on the DC General campus is approximately 704,000.
The Core 1 building of the former District of Columbia General Hospital consists of a one and three-story healthcare building.
The Core 2 building consists of a six-story healthcare building.
The Core 3 building consists of a seven-story healthcare building.
The Core 4 building consists of a seven-story healthcare building.
Building 29 consists of a three-story healthcare building.
Building 9 consists of a three-story healthcare building.
