Department of General Services' Charitable Giving to District Communities Inspires Others to Give Some Christmas Gifts of Their Own

Monday, December 17, 2012

Department of General Services’ giving spirit this season has spread to their partners. F&L Construction, AF Development/SIGAL Construction and all subcontractors on Raymond Recreation Center Project are donating coats, toys and other Christmas gifts to needy children in the DC community.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 17, 2012

Each year, the Government of the District of Columbia gives back to the local community by contributing to the its annual charitable giving campaign, the “DC ONE FUND.” The DC ONE FUND is the District’s collective contribution by government employees to local non-profit, service-oriented organizations that offer assistance for concerns within the DC community. The DC ONE FUND is a simple process whereby District employees are provided the opportunity of contributing a one-time contribution or a percentage of their annual salary to the charity of their choice. Provided within the DC ONE FUND, there are many charities to choose from such as: Martha’s Table, Make-A-Wish Foundation Foundation & Pathway to Housing DC.

As a District agency, the Department of General Services (web: dgs.dc.gov) participates in the DC ONE FUND program each year and encourages one hundred percent employee participation by informing employees of the many existing needs within the community and how the giving process works. The Department of General Services understands the importance of giving back to those less fortunate. As stated by Department of General Services’ Director Brian Hanlon,

“The Department of General Services’ primary objective is to elevate the quality of life for residents within the District and we accomplish that by not only building, maintaining and protecting buildings that are energy efficient and sustainable, but also through contributing to service-oriented organizations that give back to the community in other ways. These two components of service are what the Department of General Services embraces as truly elevating to the community.”

The spirit of giving does not stop there, but has spread to many of the partners with whom the Department of General Services works in building schools, municipalities, recreation centers and playgrounds. Recently F&L Construction, AF Development/SIGAL Construction and all subcontractors on the Raymond Recreation Center Project have donated coats, toys and other Christmas gifts to needy children within District communities. The Department of General Services isn't just concerned about giving back to the community; the Agency takes direct action and motivates other to do the same.
