DGS Healthy Schools

Under the DC Healthy Schools Act of 2010, DGS is responsible for a variety of activities designed to ensure that schools are healthy, safe places to learn. These include programs on recycling and composting, energy reduction, drinking water testing, indoor air quality, and integrated pest management.

Recent Announcements

The DC Department of General Services (DGS) invites all DC schools (public, private, and charter) to participate in the annual DC Recycle Right! Competition for Growing Healthy Schools Month. This competition, designed to encourage correct recycling in classrooms, begins the first week of October. Registration for this year’s competition closes Friday, Sept. 15, 2023.
