5 Steps to Recycle Right

Follow the steps and utilize the resources below to get your recycling program started:

Step 1: Create ACCOUNTABILITY

Principal or Principal’s Delegate (e.g. AP): Fill out online Principal Delegate Form.

Step 2: Confirm SERVICES

Foreman/DSL: Use Master Hauling Schedule to fill out your School-Specific Hauling Schedule to post in custodial office.

Step 3: Establish COLLECTION Procedures

Foreman/DSL (and education lead if students involved): Determine a mutually agreed upon Collection Standard Operating Procedures and post in custodial office.

Step 4: Set up SUPPLIES

Foreman: Use the DCPS Waste Management Procedures and Supplies Set-Up Cheat Sheet to ensure proper usage of supplies. See how to Order Supplies, Liner, Signs & Labels

Step 5: Establish that SORTING is responsibility of all staff and students

Principal or Principal's Delegate: Email DCPS Recycles! Memo to all staff and present editable DCPS Recycles! All Staff Presentation at staff meeting. For best results: Work with educator lead(s) throughout the year to remind staff and students why and how to sort correctly. Connect with Teacher & Environmental Educator Resources and consider participating in our Competitions and Challenges.
